He left his cushy banking career in Canada and stayed in Auroville for two years to learn organic farming and permaculture, then set up the four-acre farm to grow organic fruits, vegetables and lentils. It was not smooth sailing, as Bhullar did not subject his crops to insecticides or chemicals that promise more volume. It is tough to survive solely on farming income, he says. Today, Bhullar markets his goods at the Chandigarh Organic Market and has developed a loyal customer base.
Why did you start organic farming?
"A major reason why I am a farmer now,"he says, "is that I am at peace with myself the moment I pick up the plough."
